This graphic is a sexist meme that comments on gender roles, specifically the assumption that women belong in the kitchen. This meme is destructive because it uses dark humor to make a joke out of this stereotype that used to be the norm. I feel that this meme diminishes women to “wifely duties” rather than acknowledging that women have lives outside of their home lives and careers. This meme also ignores that men can also help in the kitchen and help with house duties that are predominantly assumed to be for women.

To help heal this wound I have created a meme that has captions that talk about both men and women in the kitchen rather than just women or just men. Feminism is about equality rather than diminishing men like women are diminished. The goal is this meme is to try and break the gender roles and rather show two individuals as equals. In this case it is trying to show individuals as equals in the aspects of house duties and chores.
In my new meme I removed the sexist meaning behind the words to heal what was harmed in the original meme. Sadly, I don’t think this meme will have the same viral quality because it doesn’t incorporate the dark humor that is a very popular quality in memes today.
